For speaker currently running
My thinking is that nobody would get this clearly.
I see R are probably 3 different groups
- Insane freedom caucus
- normal trump enablers
- semi centrist
McCarthy would have to do a bit of foot work to get the votes hard coalition
Jeffries very unlikely to get any R voted
other Republican could get some Democratic votes but not a very supportive coalition would the republican be working for McCarthy or for the coalition
My solution:
-
Get a centrist dem to change to being an independent. Declare that voting for him would imply that they are joining the Independent for speaker caucus and the independent will be acting primarily for the caucus positions not as a proxy for democrats.
- So he will have two or more subs one for dems and one for repubs in his caucus.
- If we could get Pelosi and Jeffires in this deal.
- Then the caucus would have almost all dems and an amount of centrist republicans.
- As a note, it would be good if dem setup fake event near start to show speaker is independent. Strengthen that caucus binds would be good.
Downsides
- This would have to have real republican ideas getting done.
- Would not be an especially progressive congress.
- Might not get quad support but if that means getting 20 republican in caucus would
Upsides:
- Would make sure insurrectionists do not get real power.
- Would have a stable coalition running house.
- Would have a very open dialog with people to get bidens agenda passed.
My proposal of which centrist democrat for this speaker.
Rep Jared Golden of Maine.
Why?
- he is seen as centrist but considered 45% conservative. Also not new to house so he knows how things should work.
- . Can be seen joining known group the Angus King Independents
- As an ex military person, he would have a better response and positon to take a patriotic background against insurrectionists
